READ THIS BEFORE BUYING!!! Jun 22, 2008 There are two major problems with this print server. The first is that you HAVE to check to see if your printer is on the VERY SHORT DLink compatibility list. If yours isn't there, then you're out of luck. The second problem is that the device comes with a fixed IP address, which means you lose access to your router unless it happens to be on the exact same IP address.
In my case, I finally got the device to print, but I lost my Internet connection. I could restore my internet connection but then I would lose access to the printer. I read that there is a work around for this, but I've never had to spend so much time setting up a device.
Quick Start Manual Wrong May 15, 2008 Warning! The printed Quick Start brochure that comes with this unit has a major error--the actual parallel port locations are reversed from those shown in the brochure. LPT 1 is shown as next to the power port. Actually LPT 1 is in the center next to the USB port. The manual on the disk is correct. Being well experienced in print server setups it took me a couple of hours of higher tech configuration testing before I found this inexcusable error by DLink. Configuration otherwise would have been a breeze. The unit works fine as a parallel port server-USB was not used. This low rating is to draw attention to this problem and is not a comment on the product which is fine.

Piece of cake ! Win XP and Mac OS10 clients Apr 29, 2008 Install was a breeze, just follow the instructions in the booklet step by step. I set the IP address of the server to a value outside of my wirless router's DHCP range. Win XP client up and running in about 5 minutes. MacBook Pro OS10 was even easier - I said "Add Printer" it said "Which one ?" .... showed me all 3 ports on the server without even telling it on which IP address to look. Problem solved couldn't be happier.

Print Server Couldnt Meet My Needs! Feb 13, 2008 Unfortunately, I had to return the DP-300U product since I couldn't interface to my primary printer. I didn't know all printers wouldn't work. After talking with D-Link support, D-Link has a webpage indicating which printers are compatible with this print server, so I recommend you visit their website before buying this product for compatibility reasons.
I needed a print server for my multiple computers and printers, but the compatibility issue nixed this one. My HP color printer using the USB port worked great, but my Canon laser printer using the parallel port didn't work. Some Canon printers work, but not mine. I'll keep searching for another print server.
It has some nice features, but Amazon took it back and that's what's nice about dealing with Amazon.

Easy install, works great Jan 28, 2008 I installed this in about 20 minutes, and it worked the first time. It's extremely handy to have. My home router already had the correct IP address (192.168.0.1) which made the job easy. If you don't have that, the installation will be more complex, and it doesn't seem like the documentation that comes with the unit is all that helpful to resolve this issue.
The only complication I didn't anticipate isn't the fault of the Print Server. It turns out that, when I've got a PC configured with a tunnel to a corporate network, you can't use the server. This is obvious in hindsight, but I didn't realize it before I set this up. It's not a big deal, but I can't print while I'm connected into the company. There's probably a fix for this, but it isn't so bad that I've bothered to find it.
In summary, the D-Link box works well and I'm happy with it.
